Toro Partners with the Rose Bowl to Prepare Field for 2011 Rose Bowl Game
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (December 30, 2010) - With strong roots at sports venues around the world, Toro is proud to once again partner with the Rose Bowl to help prepare the game field for action on New Years Day as the No. 3 ranked Texas Christian University Horned Frogs take on the No. 5 ranked Wisconsin Badgers.
We want to maintain an exceptional playing surface and landscape, and rely on Toro for their expertise and quality products,” said Will Schnell, turf superintendent of the Rose Bowl. “Whether it's a game on national TV or any other event we're hosting, we want the best surface in the country.”
Hosting many games and events throughout the year, the grounds crew at Rose Bowl Stadium is under constant pressure to maintain a high-quality environment that reflects the venue's reputation in athletics. Against the demands of a college football season, Rose Bowl is committed to creating a consistent playing surface that is safe, healthy and looks great.
To accomplish these priorities, they count on Toro turf maintenance equipment and precision irrigation systems including large-area mowers, utility vehicles, line painters and debris blowers. Since the grounds crew sods each year before the Rose Bowl game, they must work with lightweight cutting units to prevent damage to the turf while delivering a perfect cut. Similarly, the versatility of the Workman® HD Series utility vehicles are light enough to operate on newly sodded turf, yet provide a hefty payload to carry a roll of turf weighing nearly 3,000 pounds. Additionally, the Pro Force™ debris blowers provide the air power to quickly dry painted field areas such as end zones and bowl logos.
To optimize the health and playability of the turf, while best managing water resources, the grounds crew uses several Toro irrigation technologies including Turf Guard® wireless soil sensors. Integrated throughout the field, these sensors measure moisture, salinity and temperature - saving water and taking the guesswork out of managing turf conditions.
“We greatly value our long-standing relationship with the Rose Bowl and are pleased to support a venue that holds such an impressive history and tradition,” said Rick Lohman, director of corporate accounts at Toro. “We are honored for the trust they place in our maintenance equipment and precision irrigation products to keep the game field safe and in top playing condition.”
